We will get it to MP Frank Valeriote to take to the House of Commons in Ottawa.

PETITION: to the House of Commons re Genetically Modified Organisms.

Whereas there is evidence that the release of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) leads to irreversible genetic contamination;

Whereas there is evidence that genetic contamination by GMOs deteriorates

export markets (prices for non-GMO grains and pulses are higher; prices for

organically produced grains and pulses even higher; seed segregation adds costs);
Whereas genetic contamination of crops like alfalfa guarantees the collapse

of organic dairy production – among others;
Whereas there is no independent third party verification of alleged yield

increases and increased farm incomes by GMOs;
Whereas there is evidence of growing resistance by weeds to herbicides,

leading to increased spraying of other products;
Whereas individual farmers should have a right to be able to save their own seed;
Whereas there is evidence that GMOs reduce farmer choices on their farms

regardless of how it got there;

Whereas the long-term health implications of consuming GMO products are not known;

Whereas the absence of labeling in Canada contributes to confusion and less choice;
Therefore, we request an immediate moratorium on the licensing and release of new GMOs and an independent review of existing GMOs already released in the market.
